Beyond 1:1 computing (reposted from my professional learning group (PLG) blog)

Great article (link opens a new window) on moving beyond the mindset that 1:1 is the goal (it's about the tech) to the mindset of 1:World ("a vision of limitless opportunities for learning... that focuses on pedagogy as much as technology").

The tech is a tool. If it's the wrong tool for the learning goal, then don't use it!
The tech is a tool to help make our job more efficient and more effective, and to connect our learners to the world.

What are we doing here?

The purpose of this blog is to document my learning journey in gathering useful information and practical ideas for the application of technology in learning and teaching.

But I also want to ask questions. Lots of questions!

So, let's start with some questions (sourced and adapted from All Things Learning)...

For ALL learners (both teachers and students), how does technology:

  • improve and expand our learning?
  • help us solve real problems, in our learning and in our communities?
  • help us become confident, connected and actively involved life-long learners?
  • give us choices and a voice?
  • help us become more efficient and effective in ways that we can't be without it?
  • give us the opportunities to be the best we can be?
And how do we define 'technology' in a learning context? (it is not just shiny (and expensive!) new toys)

If technology is not the BEST tool available for the job, should we even use it in that learning situation?

That's enough questions for now. I'm sure that more will come up during our learning journey.
